JACAR also reports that most Japanese civilians in the Eastern Branch had been sent home by about May 1944, which is hard to square with its own 5,600 figure. Japanese Wikipedia’s 13,000 has no citation. A tourism site’s 14,000 likely confuses Pohnpei with the regional total.
