The Micronesian Teacher Education Center (MTEC), forerunner of COM-FSM, began under a University of Hawaii contract.

What happened

Under a Trust Territory contract with the University of Hawaii, MTEC gave in-service training to selected Micronesian teachers. One account dates its start to 1962, on the grounds of the Pacific Islands Central School.

Why it matters

It grew into the Community College of Micronesia and today’s College of Micronesia-FSM.
