What happened

Approving his nomination, the Congress committee praised Falcam’s experience and said he “knows the language, the culture, and the people of Ponape.” It saw his appointment as part of a policy of replacing expatriate officials with qualified Micronesians.

Why it matters

Falcam later served as governor of Pohnpei (1979–1983) and as FSM president.
