WHO-backed leprosy programme starts; January counts were Ponape 852, Truk 317, Yap 41, Kosrae 40 cases.
What happened
The World Health Organization gave $260,000 for a five-and-a-half-year programme that began in Ponape, where most cases were. A new multi-drug therapy was introduced there in August, and the patient survey was planned to move on to Truk, Yap and Kosrae.
