Bids sought for the national capitol at Palikir; base cost estimated at $10–15 million.

What happened

An earlier bid opening set for May 1985 was cancelled because US funding was not expected in time. Testimony that year put the full capitol complex at about $24.9 million, and citizen bidders got a 5% preference on base bids under $10 million.
