Newsletter calls the Palikir capitol a $10 million project funded by about $13.4 million in US appropriations.
What happened
Ground was broken at Palikir on 9 February 1987, on a 200-acre site in Sokehs given by Pohnpei State. South Korea’s Hanil Development won the contract with an $8.2 million base bid for nine buildings, and President Nakayama called the capitol “symbolic of our unity and nationalism.” Wikipedia’s often-quoted $15 million cost comes only from a diving guidebook.
