Acting President Nena declares 12 July a legal holiday, Micronesian Law Day.

What happened

Nena said the rule of law is basic to democratic government and urged people to mark the day in ways that build respect for the law. The release notes three events that fell on 12 July: the first meeting of the Congress of Micronesia (1965), the opening of the Constitutional Convention (1975) and the start of the FSM Supreme Court (1981). It dates the proclamation itself to 5 May 1997; 12 May is the date of the press release.
