US major-disaster declaration DR-1427 for Chata’an covers Chuuk and Pohnpei, the day Falcam requested aid.
What happened
Falcam first asked President Bush for help on 5 July, but FEMA found the request inadequate, and missing paperwork delayed US aid by more than a week. After his revised request of 11 July, the declaration let the US cover 75% of debris removal and emergency costs, and four critically injured people were flown to Hawaii.
