What happened

Palau’s President Tommy Remengesau announced the pledge on behalf of “the countries and territories of Micronesia”: to conserve at least 30% of nearshore marine resources and 20% of forest resources by 2020. Later that year the FSM government was recruiting an intern to “champion” the Micronesia Challenge and its Protected Areas Network.
