Chuuk State Law 11-12-08 creates the Chuuk Political Status Commission.

What happened

The commission held hearings in Chuuk and in diaspora communities in Guam, Hawaii, Oregon and the Northern Marianas. It argued that revenue sharing was unfair to Chuuk, and in 2014 it recommended independence with Chuuk’s own Compact with the United States.

Why it matters

The independence vote it proposed has been postponed repeatedly and had no date as of 2025.
