What happened

Kosrae had not had dengue since 1998, so many people aged 15 to 39 had no immunity to this type. About one in nine residents became a suspected case and 242 were admitted to hospital, straining staff and supplies. Training on how to sort and treat patients cut the hospitalization rate sharply.
