Christian declares a drought emergency for all states during El Niño; Yap gets 39% of normal rain.
What happened
The 2015–16 El Niño brought severe drought. From October 2015 to March 2016 Yap’s rainfall was the lowest in its post-war record, the island’s reservoir nearly ran dry and wildfires burned; Woleai got about 1% of its normal rain early in 2016. Chuuk’s northern and western atolls suffered damage to drinking water and to taro, breadfruit and coconut crops.
