What happened

The legislature passed the law in October 2018 and overrode Acting Governor Marius Akapito’s veto. It also stopped the Chuuk Political Status Commission from doing public education on independence. The commission’s chair, Attorney General Sabino Asor, said he would sue, calling the restriction “a violation of speech.”
