A US law signed 27 Dec restores Medicaid eligibility for Compact migrants, lost since 1996.
What happened
The 1996 US welfare law had cut Compact citizens living in the US out of Medicaid; Senator Mazie Hirono called that “inadvertent” and pushed for years to reverse it. The fix came through a December 2020 spending bill, and Hawaii’s Medicaid enrolment of Compact citizens rose 52% in the first five months of 2021.
