Islanders of Madolenihmw kill the Falcon’s captain, mate and four crew after the whaler is wrecked.
What happened
The London whaler Falcon had been held at Pohnpei for months by contrary winds and went onto a reef in July. Islanders tried to plunder the wreck and were driven off, then came back in force; Hezel writes that a young Madolenihmw chief, angered by an insult from the captain, led the attack and vowed to kill every foreigner on the island.
