The Young Eagle stays at Pohnpei until 15 September.
What happened
The Edgartown whaleship Young Eagle, under Edward C. Austin, stood off Mokil before its five-week stay at Pohnpei. Long layovers like this were typical: Hezel writes that by 1846 whaleships came to the eastern Carolines almost only to rest and resupply, not to hunt whales nearby.
