FSM History

Kosrae’s population falls to 748.

What happened

The outline’s figure of 748 is almost the same as Snow’s census of 747 the year before. Hezel notes that women were dying faster than men, leaving four males for every three females, and Snow wrote in 1855 that there were “next to no infants on the island.”
