Marshallese raiders kill over half of Kapingamarangi’s population.
What happened
This rests on one encyclopedia entry (Gale, 2008), which says Kapingamarangi had long been very isolated, its only outside contacts being castaways from the Gilberts, the Mortlocks, the Marshalls and Woleai. Of these, it says the Marshallese “slaughtered over half the Kapinga population in 1865.”
