The Wasai of Sokehs (MicSem 2072: “Nanmwarki of Sokehs”) is baptized Catholic.

What happened

The baptism in the colony’s main church was celebrated with pennants, bells and musket salutes, and the chief and his wife had their marriage blessed; one Capuchin wrote that it “will be recorded in letters of gold.” It began a string of baptisms of high chiefs, and MicSem’s history notes the political motives behind several chiefs’ conversions.
