FSM History

The Eastern Carolines mission is formally transferred from Spanish to German Capuchins.

What happened

German rule made German the language of schooling, supported by a government subsidy, which put Spanish missionaries at a disadvantage. In November 1904 the Eastern Carolines mission was formally entrusted to the German Capuchins of the Rhine-Westphalian Province. The COM-FSM date of 1903 probably refers to the first German friars, who arrived that year.
