The Marianas, Carolines and Marshalls vicariates are merged; Jesuit Bishop Lopez de Rego later sets his residence at Toloas, Truk.
What happened
The merger followed a 1922 agreement between Japan and the Vatican. Spanish Jesuit Santiago López de Rego became the first head of the combined vicariate and set his residence on Toloas (Tonoas) in Chuuk Lagoon, where he worked as a missionary until he resigned.
