Japanese population of Pohnpei given as 4,201 (Poyer et al.); the Ryukyu Shimpo share implies about 3,800.
What happened
The two figures cannot both be right: 4,201 comes from a book cited by Wikipedia, while about 3,800 is only a calculation from the Ryukyu Shimpo’s statement that 1,145 Okinawans made up 30 percent of residents. Japanese counts lumped Okinawans and Koreans together as “Japanese.”
