The final preparatory conference adopts Pohnpei as headquarters of the new Western and Central Pacific tuna commission (WCPFC).

What happened

The new commission manages and monitors tuna stocks in the Western and Central Pacific, including in international waters beyond countries’ 200-mile zones. The FSM had formally offered to host it in 2002, and President Urusemal signed the headquarters agreement in November 2005.
